Γεννήθηκε στην Άχνα της επαρχίας Αμμοχώστου το 1954. Σπούδασε ζωγραφική στο St. Martin's School of Art του Λονδίνου (Β.Α. και Μ.Α.) με καθηγητές γνωστούς ζωγράφους, όπως ο Πολωνός Joseph Herman. Κατά τα διαστήματα που έμεινε στην Κύπρο δούλευε στο "Εργαστήρι Τέχνης" στη Λεμεσό μαζί με τον αδελφό του Πάμπο Μίχλη και άλλους καλλιτέχνες. Το 1986, μαζί με τον Garth Frost, δημιούργησε το θέατρο σκιών "Το πηδηχτό λεμόνι".

ΔΗΜΗΤΡΗΣ ΜΙΧΛΗΣ: Ένας γνήσιος καλλιτέχνης.  Αναμφίβολα, ο Δημήτρης Μίχλης δεν είναι μόνο ένας γνήσιος ζωγράφος, αλλά κι ένας ασυμβίβαστος καλλιτέχνης. Το έργο του, αποπνέει μια πρωτόγονη δύναμη, μια ειλικρίνεια και μια αλήθεια που σπάνια συναντάμε στις μέρες μας. Η πινελιά του σίγουρη, τα χρώματα του γήινα. Γεννημένος στην κατεχόμενη σήμερα Άχνα, ο Δημήτρης Μίχλης ζει και εργάζεται εδώ και πολλά χρόνια στην Τόχνη. «Μου αρέσει να μένω μόνος μου πολλές ώρες, πολλές μέρες χωρίς να δω και χωρίς να μιλήσω σε κανένα. Γι’ αυτό είμαι ζωγράφος», δηλώνει.

Τα έργα του, εμπνευσμένα από το κυπριακό τοπίο και από την κυπριακή φύση γενικότερα: δέντρα και κορμοί δέντρων, λουλούδια σε μεγέθυνση, θάλασσες κι ουρανοί, αλλά και πίνακες με δυνατά κι εκφραστικά πρόσωπα, συνθέτουν τη νέα κι εμπνευσμένη δουλειά του καλλιτέχνη.

Η ιστορικός  τέχνης Δρ. Τώνια Λοίζου αναφέρει για τη δουλειά του καλλιτέχνη «Τα χρώματα του είναι γήινα, όπως γήινα είναι και τα θέματα. Σε μερικές περιπτώσεις όμως, κάνουν απότομες χρωματικές μεταβάσεις στις πολυεπίπεδες επιφάνειες και σε καθοδηγούν στο τελευταίο επίπεδο. Μετάπλαση λοιπόν της Κυπριακής φύσης με βαθύ ερωτισμό και αισθητική απόλαυση. Να λοιπόν γιατί γιατί ξεπροβάλει η ομορφιά της φύσης, γιατί ο καλλιτέχνης ξέρει να την βλέπει, να την ψαχουλεύει να την αποδίδει».

Born in Achna, Famagusta, 1954. Studied painting at St. Martin's School of Art in London (B.A., M.A), under well known painters, such as the Polish painter Joseph Herman. During the intervals which he spent in Cyprus worked at the "Art Workshop" in Limassol along with his brother Pambos Michlis and other artists. In 1986, together with Garth Frost, founded the shadow puppet theatre "To pidichto lemoni" (The Jumping Lemon).    

Dimitris Mihlis is a genuine artist. He is undoubtedly not only a genuine painter, but also an incompatible artist. His work exudes a primitive force, sincerity and a truth that we seldom meet during our days. His is sure about his brushstroke and the colors his is using are earthen. "I may paint each painting a hundred times until I get the desirable result", he comments. And he adds: "the water, the air, the color are elements of life. Water means life, color means life. I would be very pleased if I could paint the air…". Born in the now occupied Akhna village, Dimitris Mihlis lives and works for many years in Tokhni.village "I like being alone for many hours, many days without seeing or talking to anyone. This is the reason I am a painter", he says.
His new work, can be considered the best and the most mature. He puts on the canvas the moment and he captures the light, the abundant light of the Cypriot landscape. He sometimes may even stop the time. This is the reason his works exude metaphysics and immortalize the eternity. His work is inspired from the Cypriot landscape and generally from the Cypriot nature: trees and tree trunks, flowers in enlargement, seas and skies, but also paintings with strong and expressive persons, compose the new and inspired work of the artist.
