“unnamed”
Η “unnamed” δεν επιχειρεί να
ορίσει ή να απεικονίσει συγκεκριμένα
συναισθήματα, αλλά δημιουργεί έναν χώρο όπου το
βίωμα παραμένει ανοιχτό και προσωπικό. Ο Αγαθού
προσεγγίζει όσα κινούνται ανάμεσα στην ένταση
και την ηρεμία, την παρουσία και την απουσία,
μέσα από το χρώμα, την ύλη και τη χειρονομία.
Διαδοχικά στρώματα χρώματος χτίζουν και
μεταμορφώνουν την επιφάνεια, καθώς προσθήκες,
αφαιρέσεις, καλύψεις και αποκαλύψεις αφήνουν
ίχνη της ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας. Η νέα σειρά
σηματοδοτεί μια φυσική εξέλιξη και ωρίμανση της
ζωγραφικής του, ενώ παράλληλα αφήνει χώρο στον
θεατή να συναντήσει το έργο μέσα από τη δική του
εμπειρία.
Ο Σπύρος Αγαθού γεννήθηκε στη
Λευκωσία και κατάγεται από τη Λάρνακα, όπου ζει
και εργάζεται. Σπούδασε Ζωγραφική στην Ακαδημία
Καλών Τεχνών Pietro Vannucci στην Περούτζια της
Ιταλίας, ολοκληρώνοντας τις σπουδές του με
διάκριση και ανώτατες τιμητικές διακρίσεις. Το
2003 έγινε δεκτός στο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα
Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Complutense της
Μαδρίτης, στο Τμήμα Θεωρίας και Πρακτικής της
Σύγχρονης Τέχνης.
Έχει διακριθεί για το έργο του
στη χαρακτική στην Ιταλία και την Κύπρο και έχει
παρουσιάσει δύο ατομικές εκθέσεις στη Γκαλερί
Κυπριακή Γωνιά, “MIMNISKO” (2007) και “MIMNISKO
II” (2016). Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμες
ομαδικές και συνεργατικές εκθέσεις στην Κύπρο
και το εξωτερικό, μεταξύ άλλων στις “λάλλαρος”
στο Art Project Space στην Αθήνα (2025),
“DUOLOGUE” στο Κέντρο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Διάτοπος
στη Λευκωσία (2021) και “Inside–Out Stories” στο
Μουσείο Πιερίδη – Πολιτιστικό Ίδρυμα Τράπεζας
Κύπρου στη Λάρνακα (2023).
Το έργο του έχει παρουσιαστεί
στην Κύπρο, την Ιταλία, την Ισπανία, το Μεξικό,
την Ελλάδα και το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Η πρακτική
του χαρακτηρίζεται από μια ιδιαίτερη προσέγγιση
στη ζωγραφική επιφάνεια και το υλικό, όπου η
διαδικασία, η επανάληψη και η συσσώρευση
αποκτούν κεντρικό ρόλο στη διαμόρφωση της
εικόνας.
Την έκθεση επιμελείται η Χρυσήλια
Φιλιαστίδη, Ιστορικός Τέχνης και Επιμελήτρια, με
σπουδές στην Ιστορία της Τέχνης και τη Διοίκηση
Επιχειρήσεων και μεταπτυχιακό στο Arts and
Cultural Management. Η δουλειά της
επικεντρώνεται στην ανάπτυξη εκθέσεων μέσα από
έρευνα και στενή συνεργασία με καλλιτέχνες. Η
συνεργασία της με τον Αγαθού ξεκίνησε με την
έκθεση “λάλλαρος” στην Αθήνα τον Νοέμβριο 2025,
όπου επτά Κύπριοι καλλιτέχνες, μέσα από
διαφορετικά μέσα, τεχνικές και προσωπικές
αφετηρίες, διερεύνησαν πώς η βαθιά κυπριακή
εμπειρία του καλοκαιριού και της ζέστης
εγγράφεται στο έργο τους.
Βιογραφικό:
Ο Σπύρος Αγαθού γεννήθηκε στη
Λευκωσία. Κατάγεται από τη Λάρνακα, όπου ζει
και εργάζεται.
Σπούδασε στην Ακαδημία Καλών
Τεχνών «Pietro Vannucci» Περούτζια, στην Ιταλία.
Εκεί παρακολούθησε τετραετές πρόγραμμα σπουδών
στον κλάδο της Ζωγραφικής, αποφοιτώντας με
άριστα και διάκριση. Το 2003 έγινε δεκτός για
Μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στον κλάδο Καλών Τεχνών
του Πανεπιστημίου Complutense της Μαδρίτης.
Φοίτησε στο Τμήμα Θεωρίας και Πρακτικής των
Σύγχρονων Τεχνών.
Το 2002 τιμήθηκε με έπαινο στο
Διαγωνισμό Χαρακτικής “3ο
Premio Giovanni Biella per l’
incisione
2002”, στην Ιταλία. Το Νοέμβριο 2010, τού
απονεμήθηκε έπαινος από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου
και το Ίδρυμα «Τηλέμαχος Κάνθος» για τη
συμμετοχή του στο Διαγωνισμό Εικαστικών Τεχνών
Τηλέμαχος Κάνθος, για το χαρακτικό του έργο και
το Νοέμβριο 2014 αποσπά το Β’ Βραβείο Χαρακτικής
στον ίδιο Διαγωνισμό.
Τον Οκτώβριο του 2007 παρουσίασε
την πρώτη του προσωπική έκθεση με τίτλο
«ΜΙΜΝΗΣΚΩ» στην Γκαλερί Κυπριακή Γωνιά και το
2016, στην ίδια Γκαλερί, τη δεύτερη του με τίτλο
«ΜΙΜΝΗΣΚΩ ΙΙ». Σε συνεργασία με τον εικαστικό
Αντώνη Τζιαρρίδη το 2021, παρουσίασαν την
πρόταση “DUOLOGUE” στο Κέντρο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης
Διάτοπος.
Το Μάιο του 2023 εκ νέου με τον
Αντώνη Τζιαρρίδη παρουσίασαν την εικαστική
πρόταση “In side out stories” στο Μουσείο
Πιερίδη – Πολιτιστικό Ίδρυμα Τράπεζας Κύπρου.
Έχει στο ενεργητικό του πολλές
συμμετοχές σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Κύπρο και
στο εξωτερικό.

unnamed "
“unnamed” does not seek to
define or illustrate specific emotions, but
rather to create a space in which experience can
remain open, ambiguous and deeply personal.
Through colour, material and gesture, Agathou
explores states that exist between intensity and
stillness, presence and absence. Layers of
colour accumulate, shift and transform the
surface, while acts of addition, removal,
concealment and revelation leave traces of a
process that is both physical and experiential.
The resulting works reflect a natural evolution
and increasing maturity within Agathou’s
painting practice, while retaining a sense of
openness that allows each viewer to encounter
the work through their own associations,
perceptions and lived experience.
Spyros Agathou was born in
Nicosia and is originally from Larnaca, where he
lives and works. He studied Painting at the
Pietro Vannucci Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia,
Italy, completing his studies with distinction
and highest honours. In 2003, he was admitted to
the postgraduate Fine Arts programme at the
Complutense University of Madrid, in the
Department of Theory and Practice of
Contemporary Art.
He has received recognition for
his work in printmaking in Italy and Cyprus and
has presented two solo exhibitions at Kypriaki
Gonia Gallery, “MIMNISKO” (2007) and “MIMNISKO
II” (2016). He has participated in numerous
group and collaborative exhibitions in Cyprus
and abroad, including “λάλλαρος” at Art Project
Space in Athens (2025), “DUOLOGUE” at Diatopos
Centre of Contemporary Art in Nicosia (2021),
and “Inside–Out Stories” at the Pierides Museum
– Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Larnaca
(2023).
His work has been presented in
Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Greece and the
United Kingdom. His practice is characterised by
a distinctive approach to the painted surface
and material, in which process, repetition and
accumulation play a central role in the
formation of the image.
The exhibition is curated by
Chrisilia Philiastides, Art Historian and
Curator, who studied Art History and Business
Administration and holds a postgraduate degree
in Arts and Cultural Management. Her work
focuses on developing exhibitions through
research and close collaboration with artists.
Her collaboration with Agathou began with the
exhibition “λάλλαρος” in Athens in November
2025, where seven Cypriot artists, working
across different media, techniques and personal
points of departure, explored how the deeply
rooted Cypriot experience of summer and heat
becomes inscribed within their work.
Artist Biography:
Spyros Agathou was born in
Nicosia, Cyprus, and originates from Larnaca,
where he currently lives and works.
He studied at the Pietro Vannucci
Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, Italy,
completing a four-year programme in Painting and
graduating with distinction and highest honours.
In 2003, he was accepted into the postgraduate
programme in Fine Arts at the Complutense
University of Madrid, Spain, where he attended
the Department of Theory and Practice of
Contemporary Arts.
In 2002, he received a
Commendation at the 3rd Premio Giovanni Biella
per l’Incisione (Printmaking Competition) in
Italy. In November 2010, he was awarded a
Commendation by the University of Cyprus and the
Telemachos Kanthos Foundation for his
participation in the Telemachos Kanthos Visual
Arts Competition for his printmaking work. In
November 2014, he received the Second Prize in
Printmaking at the same competition.
Agathou presented his first solo
exhibition, MIMNISKO, at Kypriaki Gonia Gallery
in Larnaca in October 2007, followed by MIMNISKO
II at the same gallery in 2016. In collaboration
with visual artist Antonis Tziarridis, he
presented the exhibition DUOLOGUE at the
Diatopos Centre for Contemporary Art in Nicosia
in 2021. Their collaboration continued in 2023
with the exhibition Inside–Out Stories at the
Pierides Museum – Cultural Foundation of the
Bank of Cyprus in Larnaca.
His work has been presented in
numerous group exhibitions in Cyprus and
internationally, including Italy, Spain, Mexico,
Greece, and the United Kingdom.
